Joe Sullivan enters his ninth year as an assistant coach at his alma mater. Sullivan, who has 13 years of coaching experience under his belt, is in charge of the Saint Rose jumpers.
Last season, senior Soroya Hudson qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the triple jump. It was the first time a female field participant had qualfied for the national meet.
Prior to his return to Western Avenue, Sullivan spent three years as an assistant girl’s track and field coach at Albany High School and an additional three years as an assistant cross country coach at Voorheesville High School.
Sullivan was a member of both the cross country and baseball squads during his Saint Rose career. Sullivan was part of the first cross country squad to compete at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships when the Golden Knights joined the league at the outset of the 2000 campaign. He furthermore hit .263 (5-for-19) and played in 12 games for a Saint Rose club that advanced all the way to the 2000 NCAA Division II World Series on the strength of a 32-16-1 overall mark.
A 2001 graduate, Sullivan owns a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in adolescent education. Sullivan is currently a seventh grade English teacher at Cohoes Middle School.
Sullivan is still an active competitor. He has completed three marathons (Boston, New York City, Hudson Mohawk) in addition to the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon.Â
