BASEBALL DROPS A PAIR TO WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

WILSON, NC- The College of Saint Rose baseball team was swept by West Virginia Wesleyan in a Sunday doubleheader at historic Fleming Stadium. The Golden Knights fell 12-4 in game one before falling short in a comeback effort in a 4-3 setback in the finale.

Junior Jaden Fowler went 3-for-4 and senior Nathan Toms drove in two runs for Saint Rose in the opener. Sophomore Kenyon Motley and senior Louis Gendron each provided Saint Rose with one RBI as well.

After the Bobcats produced 12 runs on hitting 15 hits to start the day, the action tightened in a game two which ended with the Golden Knights stranding the potential tying-run on second base.

Saint Rose trailed 4-2 in the ninth before a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Motley plated Fowler to bring the Golden Knights to within a run. Sophomore Vince Venditti flew out with runners on first and second to extinguish the comeback.

Mike Benedetto and James Ward each logged two hits in the finale, with both Ward's knocks serving as run-scoring hits to round out a two-RBI effort.

The Golden Knights are off Monday before facing Francis Marion on Tuesday in Florence, S.C.
