#11 GOLDEN KNIGHTS BEGIN 2023 WITH 2-0 VICTORY AT GEORGIAN COURT

LAKEWOOD, N.J.- The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team opened the 2023 regular season with a 2-0 victory at Georgian Court this afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who begin the fall campaign ranked #11 in the United Soccer Coaches Association preseason national rankings, received a score from junior forward Mia Klammer as well as goal and an assist from graduate midfielder Elina Seppälä.

The Golden Knights began the scoring early, as Klammer punched home a corner kick from Seppala with a mere 79 seconds elapsed in the first half.

Klammer nearly doubled the score in the 19th minute when her right-footed attempt in the middle of the box rattled the post of the Lion's net.

Graduate defender Sanna Rein was also close to adding another first half goal for the Golden Knights, however her free kick attempt from 25 yards away just missed to the left.

After taking the 1-0 advantage into halftime, Saint Rose would continue to maintain its control in the offensive zone throughout the majority of the final 45 minutes.

Senior forward Kyrsten McGuffey had a good opportunity with 15 minutes remaining, as she used several quality touches to beat a pair of Lion defenders on the way towards goal. McGuffey's straight-on strike was able to be collected by Georgian Court goalkeeper Carley Polchak, who finished with three saves.

Seppala would provide the Golden Knights some comfort by netting the second goal of the day with 10:49 remaining in the second half. Seppala powered through a ball near the corner of the 18-yard box that took a deflection off a Lion defender before finding its way into the back of the net.

Saint Rose returns to action on Saturday as the Golden Knights travel to Philadelphia, PA to face Jefferson at 2:00 pm.
