BASEBALL EDGED LATE AT AUGUSTA

AUGUSTA, GA- The College of Saint Rose was stung in the late innings today at Augusta University. The host Jaguars plated 10 runs in the final four innings to secure the comeback victory after trailing throughout most of the afternoon.

Following a scoreless first six innings, Saint Rose got on the board with an RBI single by senior outfielder Tony Socci that plated senior first basemen Jack McDonald. Sophomore left fielder James Ward would follow the Socci base hit with a three-run homerun out to left that extended the margin to 4-0.

Augusta would respond with two runs in the bottom of the frame before the Golden Knights scored four more in their half of the seventh to move ahead 8-2. Sophomore shortstop Vince Venditti drove home seniors Avery Pascucci and Jared Reed with a single up the middle as part of the Saint Rose rally.

The Jaguars would own eight of the final nine runs from that point on, highlighted by a four-run eighth inning that cut the Augusta deficit to 10-9 going into the ninth.

After the Golden Knights went down in order to begin the stanza, Augusta combined a single, a walk, and an error to set up junior center fielder Harrison Aulds for the walk-off single up the middle.

Venditti finished 3-for-5, while McDonald and senior center fielder Ryan McGee logged two base hits apiece.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose wraps its trip down south with a 12:00 pm matchup tomorrow against Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.
