ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose was edged late by visiting Southern Connecticut State tonight, with the Owls pulling away in the closing stages of the fourth quarter to take the 60-54 Northeast-10 Conference win inside Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Sophomore forward
Kaileigh Hunt and junior guard
Isabel Sanchez recorded 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Golden Knights. Hunt finished 7-of-8 from the floor, while Sanchez distributed three assists.
After building an advantage that reached eight early in the second quarter, the Golden Knights took a 32-28 lead into halftime. After the third quarter opened with balanced action between the two squads, the Owls would close the frame with eight of the final 10 points to go ahead by two to start the fourth.
Saint Rose managed to keep within range each time Southern Connecticut tried to pull away in the final quarter. Trailing 50-46, the Golden Knights would run off five straight points to re-take the lead with 3:57 remaining. However, the Owls would secure the victory by claiming 10 of the final 12 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Sophomore
Lateisha Willis tallied six points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Ryley Blasetti registered six points, seven rebounds, and three assists.Â
Guard Isabella Santoro netted 18 points to top a quartert of Owls that finished in double-figures, as forward Katie Williamson, guard Zoe Amalbert and Delaney Connors provided 14, 12, and 10 points respectively.
The Golden Knights will look to bounce back at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, with the Golden Knights and Penmen set a 1:30 pm tip. Southern Connecticut State returns to action as well on Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 pm home meeting with Adelphi.
