Albany, NY- The College of Saint Rose dropped a 78-70 Northeast-10 Conference matchup to Southern Connecticut State tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.Â
Freshman guard
Latiek Briscoe led the Golden Knights in scoring with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting, which included two from behind the arc. Briscoe also added three assists, two blocks, two steals and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.Â
The Golden Knights saw themselves down a dozen midway through the first half, but battled back to take a two point lead in the closing seconds of the frame. The Owls would take a 36-35 advantage into the break after guard Sean James knocked down his third triple of the half as time expired.
Briscoe opened the second half scoring with a right-handed slam to retake the lead for the Golden Knights, beginning what would be a back-and-forth affair throughout the second half.
Trailing 52-44, sophomore guard
Keegan Zoller and junior forward
Josh McGettigan would combine for three long balls in a 13-4 sprint that put the Golden Knights ahead by one with 5:50 left. The Owls would pull away from that point however, as 13 of the next 17 would belong to Southern Connecticut State.
SCSU received a game-high 21 points from guard Uylen Coleman, while forward Zack Penn turned in a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double effort for the Owls.
McGettigan finished with 18 points, while Zoller registered 16 points for the Golden Knights on 6-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-3 from deep. Zoller also led Saint Rose with eight rebounds.Â
