MANCHESTER, N.H.- The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team ended its Northeast-10 Conference postseason run today with a quarterfinal round defeat at Southern New Hampshire. The third-seeded Penmen made eight threes and held a 54-36 rebounding advantage over Saint Rose, the 11 seed, to earn the victory.
The Golden Knights received 21 points from junior guard
Isabel Sanchez, while sophomore guard
Catherine Finnerty added 14 points and a team best seven rebounds.
After a 10-2 run put Saint Rose up early the first quarter, Southern New Hampshire responded with 13 of the final 17 points in the frame to establish a 20-14 advantage after 10 minutes.
The Penmen lead would double to 12 at halftime after the Golden Knights offense was limited to 3-of-17 shooting in the second quarter.
Saint Rose managed to cut the deficit to eight in the middle stages of the fourth quarter, but the Penmen were able to quickly reestablish the double-digit margin they had maintained for most of the second half.
Senior forward Ariana Koivisto and junior forward Jess Knight tallied 24 and 14 points, respectively, to help Southern New Hampshire advance to an NE10 semifinal date with Assumption on Thursday.
