ALBANY, NY- The College of Saint Rose women's basketball team defeated the D'Youville Saints 65-50 in a non-conference matchup tonight. The Golden Knights erased a seven-point first half deficit to secure the commanding victory inside Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Saint Rose senior forward
Makaela Johnson had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting, including 2-for-6 from behind the arc. Johnson also added 5 rebounds, a block, and a steal. Johnson has scored 20 points or more in back-to-back games, and has also reached double-digits in five straight.Â
The Golden Knights used a 10-3 run to close the second quarter to take a 28-27 lead into halftime. The Saints would lock things up at 32-32 early in the third quarter, however a layup by sophomore guard
Ryley Blasetti, followed by a three-pointer from junior guard
Isabel Sanchez would spark a 7-0 run for Saint Rose, propelling the Golden Knights ahead for good. Saint Rose finished the game-changing quarter with a 71.5 percent (10-of-14) from the field in the frame.Â
Saint Rose would lock in on defense in the fourth quarter, as it held the Saints to just 8 points while watching the lead grow to 15 points.Â
Freshman forward
Aniya McDonald-Perry would also see double-figures for the Golden Knights, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, in addition to a team-high 8 rebounds. McDonald-Perry also had 3 rejections.Â
Saint Rose will be back in action this weekend as it visits Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 1:30 PM in Rindge, N.H.
