NORTH EASTON, MASS.- The College of Saint Rose fell at Stonehill 65-55 tonight in opening round action of the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Championship.
Saint Rose held a 21-14 advantage after the opening quarter, with fifth-year forward
Nina Fedullo and sophomore guard
Isabel Sanchez combining for 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. The duo started hot from beyond the arc, netting 3-of-4 from downtown in the first quarter.
The Skyhawks found another gear on offense in the second quarter, outscoring Saint Rose 19-6 in the stanza to take the 33-27 lead into halftime, aided by the Golden Knights only converting 17.6 percent (3-for-17) of their field goals across the second frame.
After an evenly played third quarter, the Golden Knights cut the deficit to one possession at 46-44 in the opening seconds of the fourth. However, Stonehill responded with a 12-1 spurt over the next 7:25 to build their double-digit cushion.Â
Stonehill generated 25 free throws on the evening, with the hosts converting 18 attempts (72.0 percent). In comparison, the Golden Knights tallied four points on their seven free throw chances.
Fedullo finished with a "double-double" performance of 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace Saint Rose. Sanchez tallied 17 points and junior guard
Becca Townes added 16 for the Golden Knights.
Senior forward Kayla Raymond led all players with 23 points. Senior guard Emily Bramanti and junior guard Mia Kelly netted double-figures as well with 17 and 12 points respectively.
Stonehill advances to face the winner of the opening round match-up between Saint Michael's and Pace, with the remaining higher seed of the two winners playing host in the NE10 Championship Quarterfinal on Monday.
