MANCHESTER, N.H.- The College of Saint Rose and Southern New Hampshire required penalty kicks to settle a 1-1 deadlock in today's Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinal matchup in Manchester, N.H., with the Penmen going on to convert all five PK chances to advance to the NE10 semifinals.
After the Penmen scored the opening goal in the match's 59th minute, graduate midfielder
Andrew Lule leveled the action at 1-1 with 14:52 remaining when he powered home the rebound off senior midfielder
Harry Soederlind's strike off the crossbar.
The 1-1 margin would hold through the balance of regular time, necessitating a pair of 10-minute overtime sessions between the two squads.Â
Southern New Hampshire had a quality opportunity in the first extra period, when a cross-box pass created an open shot on the left side by junior forward Luka Shibitidze. Shibitidze would mishit the strike off the side of his foot, however, sending the ball over the top of the net.Â
Following another scoreless ten minutes of overtime, the teams headed to the deciding shootout, which Southern New Hampshire claimed by a score of 5-3.Â
Freshman
Tomas Rozman made three saves for the Golden Knights. Saint Rose carried a 7-4 advantage over the Penmen in shots on goal throughout the 110 minutes of play.
Southern New Hampshire will face the winner of the #1 seed Franklin Pierce and #8-seeded Bentley in the NE10 Semifinals on Wednesday, November 2.
