GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team claimed the program's tenth Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship behind a commanding 5-1 victory at Adelphi tonight. The #7 nationally ranked Golden Knights will enter the NE10 Championship as the number one seed following a fall in which Saint Rose carried an unbeaten record of 14-0-3 through the regular season, including a 9-0-3 mark within the conference.
Junior midfielder Lauren Amerena scored a goal in each half, and three other Golden Knights found the back of the net to help Saint Rose secure its first regular season conference title since 2019.
"It was a great performance tonight. I am very proud of our preparation and the players implementation of the game plan. We had some great finishes and our defense played well," said Head Coach Laurie Darling Gutheil. "Winning the NE10 regular season title is a fantastic accomplishment and a solid stepping stone into the postseason. We have a great team of coaches and players who give everything possible in pursuit of championships."
The scoring began in the 15th minute when Amerena and Janina Mueller teamed together on a beautiful give-and-go that ended with a left-footed goal by Amerena in the middle of the Adelphi box.
Mueller provided the assist on the Golden Knights second goal of the evening as well, when she played a perfect long-ball up the middle of the field to a streaking Kaelyn Britt. For the senior forward, the 36th-minute strike marked her conference-leading eighth goal of the season.
A pair of scores within a two-minute span helped Saint Rose increase the margin to 4-1 in the early stages of the second half.
Junior midfield Carolyn Brussel scored off a corner kick in the 54th-minute, followed by a unassisted strike by sophomore forward Mia Klammer only 1:51 later.
Amerena capped the scoring when she fired a shot into the top-right corner for her second goal of the evening with 10 minutes remaining.
Adelphi (10-4-2/8-2-2 NE10), who received votes in this week's United States Coaches national rankings, received its lone goal from forward Maria D'Angelo with ten minutes to go in the first half.
Looking ahead, the top-seeded Golden Knights will begin NE10 quarterfinal play at home against Southern New Hampshire, the eighth seed. The action is set for a 2:00 pm kickoff at Sullivan Field.
