SAINT ROSE SEES SEASON COME TO A CLOSE IN FIRST ROUND OF NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

New Haven Defeats Visiting Golden Knights 7-1

WEST HAVEN, CONN. – The College of Saint Rose fell 7-1 at New Haven in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament this afternoon. Sophomore infielder Madison Chandler went 1-for-3 and scored the lone run for the seventh-seed Golden Knights.

Senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tyler and junior outfielder Morgan Tyrrell also finished 1-for-3, while freshman right-hander Margaret Kelley tossed a pair of shutout innings in relief.

New Haven, now winners of 20 of its last 21 games, broke open a 1-1 deadlock with a pair of third-inning runs. The Chargers, which earned a share of the NE10 Southwest Division crown, added four runs in the fourth to increase their advantage. The support was more than enough for junior right-hander Ava Fitzmaurice, who improved to 19-1 on the spring. She permitted just three hits and did not allow an earned run in what was her 16th complete game of the season.

Junior shortstop Mya Case went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while junior infielder Nahtali Simpson hit a two-run homer to lead the New Haven offense.

The second-seed Chargers (26-5) advance to Thursday's Southwest Divisional Semifinal and will will host American International.
