GOLDEN KNIGHTS GO EXTRA INNINGS TO EARN SEASON-OPENING SPLIT AT AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose scored four runs in the top of the eighth to earn a 5-1 extra inning Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon at American International. Senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tylero had an RBI double while sophomore centerfielder Ciana Phillips and junior rightfielder Morgan Tyrrell laced ribbie singles to highlight the rally.

The road triumph earned the Golden Knights (1-1/1-1 NE10) a split of the season-opening doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets. Saint Rose was edged 3-2 in the opener.

Liverio-Tyler led the bats in the twin-bill, going 3-for-7 with three doubles, two RBI and a run scored.  Phillips also had three hits on the day, going 3-for-9 with a double and an RBI.

"It was a great feeling to step out on the field today for game day! Our defense really did a tremendous job for 14 innings, as did both pitchers and catchers. Offensively, we hit the ball hard in both games, but the coaches were really proud of the toughness the team showed the last two innings of the second game to get the win," said head coach Abby Arceneaux.

Senior right-hander Kylee Warner and sophomore right-hander Alysa Houghtaling provided Arceneaux with strong complete-game efforts in the circle. Houghtaling, who singled in one of the the two Saint Rose runs in the opener, struck out six AIC batters across six innings. In the second game, Warner fanned four and tossed six shutout innings before the Yellow Jackets (2-2/1-1 NE10) scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.

The two teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon in Springfield. First pitch is set for noon.

Note on In-Person Attendance at Games: All games are subject to change based upon COVID-19 surveillance testing for both The College of Saint Rose and its opponents. In addition, per New York State Department of Health guidelines, no spectators at this point will be permitted to attend games scheduled for the Plumeri Sports Complex. The College will continue to monitor this situation with the hope of potentially allowing fans in some capacity at a later date.
