SAINT ROSE STUMBLES ON THE ROAD AGAINST TOUGH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE TEAM


NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The College of Saint Rose was defeated 75-42 on the road tonight against Northeast-10 conference rival Southern Connecticut State. The experienced Owls outscored the Golden Knights 38-19 over the final two quarters to propel to the league victory.

For Saint Rose, junior guard Becca Townes scored eight points and fifth year forward Nina Fedullo recorded seven points to go along with a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore guard Ashia Smith tallied seven points and freshman guard Catherine Finnerty added six points to round out the high scorers for the Golden Knights (2-5/2-3 NE10). 

Southern Connecticut State (5-2/3-0 NE10) earned its third straight win after knocking down 42.0 percent (29 of 69) of its field goals while limiting the Golden Knights to 15-of-52 shooting (28.8 percent) from the floor. 

The Owls were led by graduate forward Jessica Fressle's 23 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. Senior Zoe Amalbert also finished with a "double-double" of 13 points and 10 assists, and senior Delaney Conners registered 13 points to help Southern Connecticut State remain unbeaten in conference play. Entering tonight's match-up, Fressle carried a 19.9 scoring average, the fourth-highest mark in the NE10, while Amalbert topped the league with a regular pace of 6.4 assists.

Looking forward, Saint Rose returns to Nolan Gym on Friday to face Roberts Wesleyan in a 3:45 pm non-conference meeting. The Owls also go outside of the NE10 on Saturday as they travel to Bloomfield for a 1:00 pm tilt.
Notes: The young Saint Rose roster features eight freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors, and one fifth-year…Fedullo averages team-highs of 10.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game, with the latter marking the second-best rate in the NE10…Townes scores 9.3 points and pulls down 4.9 boards per game...Townes also ranks fifth in the league with a 2.4 steals average…As a team, the Golden Knights rank third in the conference with 9.1 swipes on a nightly basis.
