PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose built an eight-point advantage in the opening five minutes, but host Pace University responded and led throughout the final 30 minutes to upend the Golden Knights 82-71 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Junior guard
Adam Anderson and sophomore forward
Sekou Sylla led Saint Rose (4-19/1-13 NE10). The latter registered his 18th "double-double" of the year with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Anderson tossed in 24 points behind 4-for-7 shooting from the arc.
Senior forward Peyton Wejnert, the conference's leading scorer, had a game-high 32 points for the Setters (15-8/7-7 NE10) who got 31 points from their bench. Sophomore guard Jordan Fox finished with 15, while freshmen forwards Bryan Powell and Christian Adams added 12 and 11 respectively.
The Golden Knights went up 12-4 after freshman forward
Josh McGettigan converted a pair from the line. Pace drew even, 20-20, when Fox knocked down a trey with 9:41 left until the break. Powell then finished inside to put the Setters up to stay.
Saint Rose clawed back to within one after freshman forward
Cartier Bowman scored on a layup with 1:50 left. The Setters subsequently rattled off eight of the next 10 points, but Anderson drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it a four point, 40-36, ballgame at halftime.
Pace opened the second stanza with a 12-2 run and eventually led by as many 17 with 13:19 remaining. It pretty much remained a double-digit ballgame the rest of the way, although the Golden Knights got to within eight, 68-60, with 3:44 to go. The Setters went 4-for-5 from the floor and made all four of their free throws the rest of the way to seal it.
