GOLDEN KNIGHTS BOUNCE BACK TO GAIN SPLIT WITH WEST CHESTER IN 2020 OPENER

ASTON, Pa. – The College of Saint Rose bounced back from a 3-0 first inning deficit to take the nightcap of today's season-opening doubleheader 7-5 versus West Chester at the Maplezone Sports Complex. The Golden Rams (1-1) took the opener 21-5 after pushing across 10 runs in the first inning.

Sophomore third baseman Francisco Infante drove a two-run double down the left field line in the eighth inning of a scheduled seven inning game to propel the Golden Knights to the comeback win.

Senior shortstop Andrew Pedone went 3-for-4 and drove home three runs, while Infante finished 2-for-4.

Pedone brought across a pair in the fourth with a base hit up the middle, while junior Remington Almarante drove a two-run, pinch hit single to right in the fifth. Pedone got the Golden Knights on the board with an RBI base hit up the middle in the third.

Freshman right-hander Randall Alejo allowed only one earned run and fanned 10 during 4.0 innings of work in his collegiate debut. Sophomore lefty Jeff Hayner gave up just a hit and whiffed six over 4.0 innings to pick up the win.

Junior second baseman Nick D'Amore went 2-for-3 with three RBI for West Chester.

In today's first game, senior second baseman Brian Hill had a two-run double to spearhead a five-run, sixth inning for Saint Rose. Junior shortstop Justin Horn belted a grand slam in the first to lead the Golden Rams offense.

Looking ahead, both sides have 12:00 pm twin-bills on tap tomorrow. The Golden Knights conclude their weekend trip with a noon date at East Stroudsburg. West Chester returns to the Maplezone Sports Institute to face Jefferson University.
