CLERMONT, Fla. – The College of Saint Rose split today's PFX Spring Games. The Golden Knights (1-3) lost to Minnesota State-Moorhead 6-1 and defeated Northern State 6-4.
Saint Rose took an early lead against Northern State (4-2), putting up three runs in the second inning. Senior infielder
Briana Bowen had the big hit of the frame, doubling home freshman infielder
Taylor Matlock and freshman designated player
Samantha Weiss with two outs.
The Wolves batted around in a four-run fourth to take the lead. Junior catcher Madison Rutter hit a three-run home run to highlight the inning.
Saint Rose regained the lead in the sixth with bases-loaded walks by senior pinch-hitter
Beth Jones and Bowen. Sophomore outfielder
Alissa Folts singled in sophomore infielder
Savanna Liverio to give the Black and Gold a seventh-inning insurance run.
Freshman right-hander
Samantha Allen permitted just two hits across 3.2 relief innings to earn her first collegiate victory.
Bowen was 2-for-3 with three RBI in the win.
In the opener, Minnesota State-Moorhead (1-8) strung four hits together to plate three second-inning runs. Freshman left fielder Samantha Gjerde increased the Dragons' lead in the fourth with a two-run homer.
Sophomore shortstop Ryane Brus
h, who went 2-for-3, got the Golden Knights on the board in the sixth with an RBI single.
Gjerde closed the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom half. She finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
The Golden Knights continue their Florida trip with a pair of games tomorrow afternoon. Saint Rose will face University of the Sciences at 1:45pm, and Bloomfield at 4:00pm.
