PITTSBURGH BOUND!! GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEFEAT BLOOMSBURG 2-1 TO ADVANCE TO SEVENTH NATIONAL SEMIFINAL

COLONIE, N.Y. – And then there were four! The College of Saint Rose struck twice in the first half and held off a determined Bloomsburg squad to upend the sixth-ranked Huskies 2-1 in today's NCAA Championship Tournament National Quarterfinal inside Afrim's Sports Park.

In the process, the 11th ranked Golden Knights punched a ticket to their seventh NCAA Championship National Semifinal within the past 12 years. Saint Rose (21-2-1) will meet an opponent yet to be determined Thursday at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Freshman forward Olivia Boucher and senior midfielder Morgan Burchhardt accounted for the two goals. Senior keeper Marika Laurendeau quarterbacked the defensive unit of seniors Nia Brown, Deanna Trongone, Karmyn Carter, and freshman Sanna Rein that held a Huskies (18-3-1) side, which entered the contest 21st in the country with a 2.52 goal scoring average, scoreless from the field of play. Laurendeau finished with a pair of saves en route to her 50th career win.

The Golden Knights got on the board fast. Senior forward Nina Predanic delivered a nifty feed from the middle of the pitch to Boucher, who collected it in stride near the top of the area before firing the game's first strike to the left side of the net with 9:06 expired. Burchhardt then put her ball striking ability on full display a mere seven seconds prior to intermission when she whistled a restart from 35-yards out that rose up just under the top left-corner for what proved to be game-winner.

Bloomsburg picked up the intensity in the second half and finally broke through when Lauren Hoelke converted a penalty kick at the 67:09 mark after the Golden Knights were whistled for a hand ball.

Overall, the contest was played fairly evenly with each squad controlling possession in each half. Saint Rose manufactured a 10-4 shot advantage throughout the first period, while Bloomsburg engineered a 11-7 differential during the final 45 minutes.
