GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TO ADELPHI IN NE10 OPENER

ALBANY, N.Y. – Adelphi outscored The College of Saint Rose 15-4 throughout a six-minute surge late in the second half on the way to an 85-76 defeat of the host Golden Knights in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both clubs today.

The Panthers (4-1/1-0 NE10) led for nearly 37 minutes although Saint Rose cut a 10 point, 55-45, deficit with 14:58 remaining to a bucket, 62-60, after junior guard Adam Anderson knocked down a jumper in the paint.

Adelphi responded with its spurt to claim an 11 point, 75-64, advantage with 4:37 to play. Sophomore swing Dwaine Williams ignited the jaunt by knocking down a 3-pointer and senior guard Austin Beech finished inside to cap it. The Golden Knights got closer than six the rest of the way.

Sophomore forward Sekou Sylla registered his fifth "double-double" of the year to pace the Golden Knights (3-3/0-1 NE10). Sylla tossed in 22 points and hauled in 10 boards. Anderson and sophomore guard Tyler Washington added 17 and 10 points respectively.

Beech and sophomore guard Ronnie Silva tossed in 25 points apiece, and freshman forward Joshua Koulamallah posted a "double-double" of his own behind 13 points and 10 boards for the Panthers.

Saint Rose shot well overall from inside from the arc, but struggled to connect from long range. The Golden Knights converted 61.9 percent (26-for-42) of their two point attempts, but canned only 20.0 percent (3-for-15) of their looks from beyond the arc.

Looking ahead, both squads are on the road Tuesday. Saint Rose heads to Syracuse to take on Upstate Challenge and NE10 rival Le Moyne at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Panthers have an 8:00 pm date at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del.
Notes: Sylla leads the NE10 in rebounding (11.3) and is second in scoring (21.2)…The Golden Knights are shooting 49.9 percent from the floor on the year, the second highest mark in the conference.
