GOLDEN KNIGHTS LATE RALLY FALLS SHORT AT DOMINICAN

ORANGEBURG. N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 16-point deficit with five minutes remaining to get to within four, but could not get any closer in tonight's 83-76 setback to host Dominican on the final day of action at the Eighth Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament.

Sophomore forward Sekou Sylla recorded his third "double-double" of the year with 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (2-2). Sophomore guard Tyler Washington tossed in 18 points and passed around a team-high four assists, while freshman forward Josh McGettigan and senior guard Michael Wearne contributed 11 and 10 points respectively. Freshman guard Cartier Bowman had six points and 13 boards, 11 off the defensive glass.

Sylla went 1-for-2 from the stripe to ignite the Saint Rose late jaunt and capped it with another free throw to make it a four point, 80-76, affair with 17 seconds remaining. However, the Chargers (4-0) closed it out by going 3-for-4 from the foul line around a pair of Golden Knights misfired 3-point attempts.

The contest was close early in the second period as well. Saint Rose opened the stanza by scoring five answered points that transformed a four point, 29-25, halftime deficit into a one point, 30-29, lead after Washington drained a trey off a Bowman assist. However, senior guard Jonathan Garcia finished a three-point play at the other end and Dominican never trailed from that point forward.

The Golden Knights were hurt by 18 turnovers that the Chargers converted into 21 points. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Wahaad Johnson finished 7-for-9 from the floor on the way to a game-high 23 points throughout 22 minutes of reserve duty for the undefeated Chargers.

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action Wednesday. Saint Rose returns to the road for a 7:00 pm game at Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt. Dominican hosts Caldwell at 7:30 pm.
Notes: Sylla was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll Monday…The Golden Knights have averaged 94.0 points throughout their two wins, but 69.5 in their pair of setbacks.
