SAINT ROSE FALLS TO BENTLEY IN NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINAL

Golden Knights will await their potential NCAA Tournament fate

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose led for 32 minutes, but was outscored 10-2 throughout the final 5:19 in today's 68-65 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal setback to Bentley at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

"Both teams played really hard. We just were not able to make some shots down the stretch and they were," said assistant coach Mike Perno.

The Falcons (16-11) will now visit Saint Anselm for Wednesday's semifinal. The Hawks advanced with today's 93-87 quarterfinal triumph versus Southern Connecticut State. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights (20-9) will await their NCAA Tournament fate. Bids will be announced next Sunday, March 4.

Senior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd scored 19 points and pulled down five rebounds, while senior forward Julian Lipinski finished with 17 points, on 7-for-11 shooting, and four boards to lead Saint Rose.

Junior guard Ryan Richmond tossed in 14 of his 21 points after halftime and junior forward Zach Gilpin contributed 19 points to pace Bentley.

The game was close throughout although the Golden Knights boosted their advantage to seven points, 52-45, after Lipinski completed a conventional three-point play with 12:49 to go. It was still a five point, 63-58, cushion seven minutes later when Boyd drained a trey.

However, Saint Rose could only convert one more field goal the rest of the afternoon. Senior swing Brandon Wheeler finished inside to put the Falcons ahead for good, 66-65, with 2:14 left and then sophomore forward Chris Hudson canned a pair from the foul line with nine ticks remaining to all but seal it.

The Golden Knights pushed the ball up the floor, but junior guard Shane Herrity's rushed 3-point attempt from well beyond the arc rolled off the back rim.
Notes: The Golden Knights have now advanced to the NE10 Championship in 17 of their 18 years of league membership. The lone exception was 2011-12. Lipinski has been in double-figures scoring in seven straight games. Today marked only the third time all year that Saint Rose was held to less than 70 points at home.
