GOLDEN KNIGHTS DISPLAY TOUGHNESS WITH CLOSE WIN AT ADELPHI

ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose held host Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi without a field goal throughout the final 4:10 to chalk up a key 72-68 victory tonight.

The game was close throughout with 14 ties and 20 lead changes. However, the Golden Knights (4-4/2-4 NE10) took the lead for good when senior forward Matt Cerutti knocked down a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left to make it a 69-68 ballgame. Saint Rose then forced the Panthers (5-4/1-4 NE10) to come up empty on their final two possessions, which secured the Golden Knights third win in their last four outings.

"We really played with poise and controlled the tempo against a very aggressive offensive team. We played with a tremendous amount of passion and toughness and stayed the course until the final buzzer," said head coach Mike Perno.

Cerutti recorded his second double-double of the year and freshman forward Sekou Sylla, the two-time reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, fell just shy of his fourth to lead Saint Rose. Cerutti finished with a career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Sylla recorded 20 points and nine boards.

Furthermore, sophomore guard Adam Anderson wound up with 14 points, while senior guard Shane Herrity filled the box score with six points, six rebounds, and seven assists.

Junior guard Jack Laffey led Adelphi with 24 points.

Going forward, Saint Rose has a 3:30 pm "non-conference" game Saturday at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H. The game may be viewed live on NE10Now.tv. Meanwhile, Adelphi has a 3:30 pm home league date Saturday with American International.
Notes: Sylla was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday…He has been in double-figures scoring in each of the team's eight games this season…Saint Rose has put four players in double-figures scoring on five occasions…Opponents are shooting only 40.2 percent (92-for-209) from the floor throughout the Golden Knights three wins, but are connecting at a 54.3 percent (107-for-197) clip throughout their four setbacks.
