SAINT ROSE SUFFERS 3-1 SETBACK TO SOUTHERN N.H.

Schweitzer and Kubik Record "Double-Doubles"


ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team had three players record double figure kills in tonight's 3-1 setback to visiting Southern New Hampshire. The Golden Knights (16-11/7-6 NE10) dropped the Northeast-10 Conference match by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 23-25.
 
Junior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer led the way with a dozen kills. She added 13 digs for her eighth "double-double" of the fall. Sophomore middle hitter Kyla Archie and senior middle hitter Shayna Webber finished 11 rallies apiece, Archie on .391 hitting.
 
Senior setter Sam Kubik also registered a "double-double" in defeat. She dished out 39 assists and elevated 14 Penmen attacks. Junior libero Tina Ceriello topped all players with 18 digs.
 
Senior outside hitter Priscila Castro and junior outside hitter Amanda Costales each tallied "double-doubles" for Southern New Hampshire (10-11/8-5 NE10). The duo combined for 20 kills, 10 apiece, and 22 digs, with a dozen coming from Castro. Senior libero Shaira Sanabria topped the victors with 15 digs, while senior setter Jessica Dillon, a Burnt Hills native, distributed 36 assists.
 
The Golden Knights, making a push for an NE10 Championship Tournament berth, were relentless throughout the match. After the Penmen used an 8-0 run to take a 24-12 opening set lead, Saint Rose reeled off nine-straight points to the delight of a large Friday night crowd. The second set was tied at 21 before the Golden Knights earned the final four points. Kubik served up two of her four aces in the stretch. Following a third set loss, the home team was down 24-20 in the fourth. The Golden Knights used a Schweitzer kill and a pair of SNHU miscues to take the next three rallies. After the visitors took their second timeout while at match point, the Penmen were able to seal the victory in on the next serve.

Both teams conclude the regular season tomorrow afternoon. The Golden Knights host Franklin Pierce for "Senior Day" at 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, Southern New Hampshire plays at Le Moyne.

Notes: The Golden Knights opened at No. 9 in the NCAA East Regional Rankings…Saint Rose has recorded NE10-bests of 212 total blocks and 2.23 blocks per set…Webber tops the conference with 1.18 blocks per set, while Archie (0.97) ranks fifth in the category…Ceriello who was named the NE10 Libero of the Week five times this fall, is atop the NE10 in digs per set (5.68) and total digs (557)…Kubik, second among the league leaders with 960 total assists, ranks third on the Saint Rose career assist chart with 2,718 career assists.
