BALANCED ATTACK LEADS SAINT ROSE TO FIFTH STRAIGHT TRIUMPH

Golden Knights shoot 54.7 percent from the floor to upend SNHU 88-75

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53) from the floor and put six players in double-figures scoring to win its fifth straight with tonight's 88-75 victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire.

"I thought our guys played with great toughness. SNHU is one of the more talented teams we have faced all year.  I was happy for our guys and we look forward to getting better each and every day," said assistant coach Mike Perno.

Senior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd led the scoring parade with 19 points, to go along with five assists, while senior forward Jack Jones tossed in 16. Senior forward Julian Lipinski and junior forward Matt Cerutti  finished with 14 and 13 points respectively and hauled in 15 rebounds collectively. Meanwhile, senior guard Jamaal Greenwood and junior guard Shane Herrity finished with 10 points apiece.

Forward Chris Walters, a graduate student, tossed in 22 to lead the Penmen (11/5/7-4 NE10).

The two teams walked in the locker room at halftime tied 39-39.  The Golden Knights (14-4/9-1 NE10) then took off on an 18-6 run at the 17:58 mark of the second period that transformed a 46-45 advantage into a 13 point, 64-51, cushion with 11:19 to play. Boyd drove the lane and flushed a monster dunk and then Lipinski finished inside to cap the jaunt.

Southern New Hampshire responded to cut its deficit to a bucket, 65-63, after Walters knocked down a 3-pointer with 8:33 to go. Saint Rose then pushed its advantage back to nine when Jones buried a trey two minutes later.

The Penmen made one more push to get to within four, 79-75, following a pair of Walters' free throws, but the Golden Knights held them scoreless the rest of the way to improve to 7-1 at home this season.

Looking ahead, both squads have 3:30 pm home NE10 contests Saturday. Saint Rose will host Assumption while Southern New Hampshire will take on American International in Manchester.
