NYACK, NY-The College of Saint Rose jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead only to see Nyack score four unanswered goals throughout the second stanza that allowed the host Warriors to chalk up a 4-2 non-conference victory this afternoon.
Â
The Golden Knights (0-2) manufactured a 20-11 shot advantage, including an 11-7 edge in threats on target, and a 15-6 corner kick differential, but Nyack took better advantage of its opportunities (2-0-1) to keep its unbeaten record intact.
Â
Junior midfielder
Kyle Clemens opened the scoring when he finished a through pass from senior midfielder
Suleiman Haruna-iya with 30:32 gone by. Haruna-iya then made it 2-0 Saint Rose 10 minutes later when he headed home a corner off the foot of junior midfielder
Carlos Menjivar.
Â
However, senior forward Finn Reese struck for the final three tallies within a 23 minute stretch and freshman forward Alex Garcia buried the Warriors' first goal with 11 minutes elapsed in the second period. Meanwhile, sophomore keeper Alvaro Magel came up with nine saves to keep Saint Rose at bay.
Â
The Golden Knights nearly cut their deficit to a goal in the final 1:19 when junior forward
Ryan Rooney knocked a shot off the crossbar.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Saturday for a 6:00 pm meeting with Queens College. The women's team will take on Stonehill in the doubleheader opener at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, Nyack has a 2:00 pm home date Saturday with University of the District of Columbia.
