GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPENDED BY MERRIMACK, 83-70

McDonald registers first "double-double"

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose fell 83-70 to visiting Merrimack on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Zoe McDonald registered career-highs of 14 points, on 6-of-11 shooting, and 13 rebounds for her first "double-double" as a Golden Knight.

Saint Rose (5-7) was led in scoring by junior guard Ashley Vanderwall who finished with a season-high 23 points.

Sophomore forward Leah Dollard added 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting in 16 minutes of reserve duty. Dollard, who ranks third in the Northeast-10 Conference with 54.8 field goal percentage, has tallied double figures in four-straight contests.

The Warriors (7-5) received a game-high 32 points from junior guard Lindsay Werner. Freshman guard Alyssa Casey added 16 points, while sophomore forward Denia Davis-Stewart recorded a "double-double" of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Davis-Stewart also blocked seven Saint Rose shot attempts.

In what was a precursor to the afternoon, Merrimack raced out to 7-0 lead before the Golden Knights battled back to trail just 36-32 at intermission. Vanderwall totaled 14 first half points for Saint Rose, which made 57.1 percent of its treys in the opening 20 minutes.

With 3:22 left in the third quarter, Vanderwall knocked down a jumper to give the Golden Knights a 47-46 lead. It would be the final advantage for Saint Rose as Werner hit a three just eight seconds later. Werner then earned three the old-fashioned way on the Warriors' next possession to push the advantage to six.

The Golden Knights cut it to one, 60-59, when Dollard made a jumper with 7:34 remaining. Only 12 seconds later, Casey ignited a 15-4 Merrimack run during the next 4:27 with a trey. The game stayed remained in double digits from there.

Looking ahead, both teams have home NE10 games on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The Golden Knights host Saint Michael's in the opener of a league doubleheader, while Merrimack entertains Southern Connecticut State.
