HALVERSON RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPENDED 3-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team lost at Southern Hampshire, 3-2, in Friday night Northeast-10 Conference action. The Golden Knights (12-16/3-10 NE10) fell by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 18-25, 21-25, 9-15.

Senior middle hitter Maddy Halverson continued her strong all-around play in her final matches. She led the Golden Knights with 12 kills, a season-high, on .294 hitting. Defensively, Halverson dug 15 SNHU attacks for her second "double-double" of the fall and totaled three blocks.

Junior middle hitter Shayna Webber overcame a slow start to add 10 kills on .286 hitting.  She blocked seven Southern New Hampshire swings.

For the second-straight contest, freshman outside hitter Graciela Cruz killed nine sets on better than .300 hitting. Tonight, she swung .333.

Junior setter Sam Kubik distributed 43 assists.

In the back, sophomore libero Tina Ceriello totaled 24 digs.

Southern New Hampshire (10-12/6-7 NE10), needing the win to maintain its NE10 Tournament hopes, received double-doubles from three players.

Senior outside hitter Marisa Coronis registered a match-high 24 kills on .333 hitting and 19 digs.

The Penmen got 11 kills and 10 digs from junior outside hitter Priscila Castro.

Junior setter Jessica Dillon dished out 33 assists and elevated 10 Golden Knights' swings, while senior libero Kathleen Schurman dug 28 Saint Rose attacks.

The Golden Knights trailed throughout much of the opening set. Each time the visitors put together a run to close the gap or tie the score, SNHU would take the next couple of points to regain the advantage. The hosts had things at set point at 24-22 when Saint Rose broke through. After a kill by outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer and a Southern New Hampshire attack miscue knotted things up, Webber and Cruz blocked an attack to give the Golden Knights their first lead of the night. Ceriello sealed it with an ace on the next serve. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Fogg topped the visitors with three kills in the first set.

Saint Rose capitalized on numerous Southern New Hampshire miscues to open up a 9-3 lead in the second set. That proved to be the difference as the Golden Knights went up 2-0. As a team, Saint Rose hit .323 and held SNHU to .057 hitting in the second frame.

The Penmen, buoyed by a 12-4 run midway through, took the third set. SNHU hit .273 in the set.

Southern New Hampshire opened up a 12-5 lead and limited the Golden Knights to .067 hitting to set up the decisive fifth set.

SNHU raced out to a 7-3 lead to complete the comeback.

NE10 play continues tomorrow afternoon. The Golden Knights visits Franklin Pierce and SNHU hosts Le Moyne.
