SAINT ROSE FALLS TO ASSUMPTION IN NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINAL

ALBANY-Assumption scored three times only 19 minutes apart in the early going to upend The College of Saint Rose 3-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinal tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Junior forward Kallie Villemaire accounted for all three goals for the Greyhounds to push her season total to a league best 20 on the year.

The sixth seed Golden Knights (12-4-2) manufactured an 18-10 shot advantage and generated a 7-2 corner kick differential, but the sixth seed Greyhounds (10-6-1) made the most of their opportunities to advance to Friday's semifinal at second seed Southern New Hampshire.

Saint Rose started out strong by developing the first four shots of the contest, but Villemaire struck with a mere 8:53 elapsed for what ultimately proved to be the game-winner. She then scored again three minutes later after collecting a nice feed through the middle from sophomore midfielder Jessica FitzGerald.

The Golden Knights had a chance to cut their deficit in half, but Assumption sophomore keeper Alexis Nason made a diving save to her right on a penalty kick at the 13:55 mark to keep her clean sheet intact.

Villemaire closed out the scoring when she dribbled some 30 yards up the left side before touching home a shot inside the far right post at the 27:18 mark.

The second half featured few scoring opportunities as the two sides engineered a combined eight shots during that span after producing 20 during the opening 45 minutes.

Sophomore keeper Marika Laurendeau came up with two saves throughout 84 minutes of action, while sophomore midfielder Victoria Barris and sophomore forward Nina Predanic registered four and three shots respectively for Saint Rose.
Notes: Seven sophomores were in the Golden Knights starting lineup this evening. Saint Rose is now 28-11-1 in NE10 Championship play throughout its 17-year league tenure and is one of only two programs, along with Franklin Pierce, to have captured seven league titles. Fourteen different players have at least one goal with Predanic leading the way with five strikes, four of which have been game-winners. This is the 18th consecutive year that the Golden Knights have won at least 10 matches.
