SAINT ROSE FALLS TO NATIONALLY RANKED BENTLEY

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose hung close with Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley throughout the opening 20 minutes, but the Falcons asserted themselves in the third period to upend the Golden Knights 72-54 tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Bentley (16-4/12-1 NE10), ranked #20 in the WBCA national poll and #22 in the D2SIDA media poll, outscored Saint Rose (11-8/6-7 NE10) 22-6 throughout the final 7:24 of the third that transformed a 35-29 halftime advantage into a 62-41 lead heading to the fourth. It remained a double-digit affair the rest of the way as the Falcons ran their win streak to four games.

Sophomore guard Ashley Vanderwall led the Golden Knights with 11 points, while senior guard Taylor Nazon tossed in nine points and pulled down six rebounds. Also, sophomore forward Zoe McDonald went 4-for-6 from the floor on the way to a career-high eight points in 18 minutes off the bench. Freshman guard Cameron Graupman finished with eight points as well.

For the Falcons, senior All-America forward Jen Gemma led a quartet of double-figure point producers with 16 points and nine boards. Junior guard Lauren Green also scored 16 and fellow junior guard Trevena Bennett added 11. Additionally, sophomore center Victoria Lux wound up with a "double-double" behind 10 points and a like number of caroms.

Looking ahead, both teams hit the road Saturday for 1:30 pm conference dates. Saint Rose travels to Easton, MA to meet Stonehill, while Benley heads to New Haven to take on Southern Connecticut State.
Notes: The Golden Knights have still won eight of their last 11 games although they had a five-game home unbeaten streak snapped tonight…Four players are averaging at least 9.9 points with Nazon leading the way at 13.0 ppg…Senior forward Staci Barrett was recognized in a brief pregame ceremony for becoming the 20th player in programs annals to reach the 1,000-point plateau…She accomplished the feat last week and currently has 1,020.
