COLCHESTER, VT-The College of Saint Rose rallied from an early 15 point deficit to win its fifth straight with today's 80-62 victory at
Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's. The Golden Knights (17-4/9-3 NE10) shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the third straight time and forced the Purple Knights into 24 miscues that they turned into 25 points.
Â
"After a flat start today our guys picked up their energy and did an excellent job of battling a tough-minded and high scoring Saint Michael's team. We had excellent balance on both ends of the court as well," said head coach
Brian Beaury.
Â
Junior forward
Jack Jones scored 18 points, nine in each half, to lead six Saint Rose players in double-figures. Senior guard
Damon Coleman tossed in 14 while senior forward
Tyler Sayre and junior forward
Julian Lipinski each finished with a dozen. Also, junior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd and senior guard
Chris Dorgler added 10 apiece.
Â
Saint Michael's made nine of its first 13 field goal attempts to jump out to a 21-6 lead eight minutes in, before Saint Rose responded with a 17-4 jaunt to cut its deficit to a bucket, 25-23, with 7:35 to go until halftime. Junior guard
Jamaal Greenwood canned a jumper in the paint to ignite the run and Dorgler buried a jumper off a feed from sophomore guard
Shane Herrity to cap it.
Â
A minute later, Coleman connected from long range and Dorgler came up with a steal that the former finished. The Golden Knights subsequently never trailed again.
Â
Saint Rose ultimately outscored the Purple Knights 34-10 throughout the final 12:39 to go in the locker room up 40-31 at the break.
Â
Saint Michael's managed to get back to within seven, 44-37, in the opening three minutes of the second stanza after sophomore guard Levi Holmes III knocked down a 3-pointer. Four minutes later, the Purple Knights clawed back to within six, 52-46, when senior forward Matt Bonds hit a pair from the foul line.
Â
However, the Golden Knights kept their poise and scored nine unanswered points to increase their lead to 15, 61-46, with 9:51 left. It then remained a double-digit ballgame the rest of the way.
Â
Bonds wound up with a "double-double" behind 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Holmes scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Purple Knights.
