GOLDEN KNIGHTS DROP A PAIR AT NEW HAVEN

LOOK FORWARD TO FIRST POSTSEASON APPEARANCE SINCE 2003

WEST HAVEN, CT–The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends of this afternoon's doubleheader at Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division rival New Haven.

The Golden Knights (18-18/12-9 NE-10) rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring three times in the seventh to force extra innings, but the host Chargers (17-20/10-12 NE-10) scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the ninth to take the first game 6-5. They then completed the day by snapping a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth en route to a 3-1 victory.

Saint Rose will now play an NE-10 Championship first-round game at Adelphi on Tuesday. It will be the Golden Knights first postseason appearance since 2003.

Senior center fielder Derek Reed went 2-for-5 with a two-run base hit in the seventh and a double in the ninth while junior catcher Joe DeLuca belted a two RBI double in the fourth that put Saint Rose up 2-1 in the opener. Also, junior right-hander Carmine Vricciariello allowed one hit and fanned four throughout 2.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.

New Haven scored three times in the fifth and tacked on another in the sixth to afford itself a three-run advantage. The Golden Knights got one back with two outs via a bases loaded passed ball and Reed came through to knot it 5-5 in the seventh. Saint Rose then put the potential go ahead run in scoring position in both the eighth and the ninth, but each time the Chargers were able to escape further damage.

Sophomore right fielder Sean Maki, senior designated hitter Patrick Griffin, and Reed accounted for the lone three Saint Rose base hits in the finale.

After New Haven took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Golden Knights scored on an error in the fourth before the Chargers pushed across a pair of two out runs in the fourth.
