GARDEN CITY, NY-Host Adelphi went 10-for-12 from the foul line throughout the final three minutes to secure an 83-70
Northeast-10 Conference victory versus The College of Saint Rose tonight. The Golden Knights shot a season-low 36.8 percent (25-for-68) from the floor and were outrebounded 44-36 by the Panthers (7-3/3-2 NE10) who improved to 3-1 on their home floor.
Â
The game featured five ties and six lead changes, and it was a one possession game for a seven minute stretch beginning at the midway point of the second stanza. Saint Rose was within a point, 66-65, with 3:17 to go after senior forward
Tyler Sayre converted a layup. However, freshman guard Austin Beech completed a conventional three-point play at the other end to make it a four point, 69-65 affair.
Â
Sayre again got the Golden Knights (9-2/4-2 NE-10) within a bucket by burying a pair from the free throw line, but Beech made two himself and after Saint Rose came up empty, junior guard Michael Coffey drained a 3-pointer to afford Adelphi a seven point, 75-67, advantage with 2:09 to go.
Â
Sayre and senior forward
Chris Dorgler finished with 12 points and seven rebounds apiece, while junior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd and junior forward
Julian Lipinski scored 10 points each for Saint Rose.
Â
Sophomore forward Jack Laffey tossed in a game-high 16 points and Coffey finished with 15 to propel the Panthers.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Monday, December 12 to host NE10 rival Stonehill in a "non-conference" game. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Panthers have a 1:30 pm conference date at Pace University Saturday.
