SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO-The College of Saint Rose held Pittsburg State (KS) to one field goal throughout the opening 10 minutes of the second half on the way to today's 67-44 victory at the Puerto Rico Basketball Classic. The Golden Knights (7-0) furthermore limited the Gorillas (1-6) to 29.4 percent (15-for-51) shooting from the floor, including 20.8 percent (5-for-24) in the second period.

Junior forward
Julian Lipinski finished in double-figures scoring for the fifth time this season with 14 points to lead Saint Rose, which had nine different players listed in the scoring column. Lipinski also pulled down eight rebounds and handed out three assists. Senior forward
Tyler Sayre added 10 points and six boards, while junior guard
Jamaal Greenwood scored all of his season-high 10 points in the first half.

Jack Jones tossed in nine points and came up with four blocks in 17 minutes off the bench. Junior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd finished with eight points, while senior guards
Chris Dorgler and
Damon Coleman both filled up the box scorer. The latter wound up with six assists, six rebounds and four steals; while Dorgler had seven boards to go with a pair of assists and six points.

Saint Rose trailed by as many as eight, 14-6, with 13:24 left in the first half and was still down seven, 27-20, with 4:52 remaining. However, the Golden Knights closed the period with a flurry. Dorgler and Greenwood each buried 3-pointers around a Pittsburg State turnover that yielded a 32-29 Saint Rose advantage at the break.

The Golden Knights then outscored the Gorillas 23-3 during the initial 9:45 of the second half to take a commanding 23 point, 55-32, lead with 10:15 to go in the ballgame.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose closes its stay tomorrow in San Juan. The Golden Knights will take on the host Gallitos at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Gorillas return home Thursday to take on Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) rival Nebraska-Kearney at 7:30 pm.
Notes: Saint Rose is 7-0 for the first time since 2003-04 when the Golden Knights went on to finish 19-10…The Golden Knights have never opened up 8-0 during their NCAA era (1991-92)…The team has held all seven of its foes to less than 45.0 percent shooting from the floor and has limited them to 56.7 points per game.
