ALBANY- Junior guard
Taylor Nazon totaled a career-best 15 points and 14 rebounds as The College of Saint Rose defeated Chestnut Hill, 67-53, in the final game of the Saint Rose Holiday Classic held at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Saint Rose (6-4) used an 8-0 run in the first period to grab a 10-7 advantage over Chestnut Hill (3-8), after it had jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Golden Knights saw their lead grow to 15 at the 3:05 mark in the second period after sophomore guard
Britani Stowe connected on a three-pointer.
The Golden Knights went into halftime with a 38-29 advantage, and led by double digits throughout the majority of the final 20 minutes, never allowing the margin to dip below eight points.
Senior guard
Keyontae Williams scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while also recording six steals, six assists, and just one turnover. Senior forward
Kelsey Glanzman totaled eight points and seven rebounds, while freshman forward
Karissa Birthwright finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Saint Rose limited its opponent to under 35.0 percent shooting from the field for the sixth time this season, as the Griffins finished 18-for-52 (34.6 percent). The Golden Knights shot 27-for-58 (46.6 percent) from the field.
For Chestnut Hill, junior guard Caity Kuhnen scored a team-high 17 points and freshman forward Jaeda Wildgoose finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals.
In the tournament's first game of the day, Franklin Pierce defeated Molloy, 75-71. Senior forward Kara Charette finished with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and an 8-for-9 performance at the free-throw line for the victorious Ravens. For Molloy, senior guard Kimani Jackson filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals and two assists.
Saint Rose returns to action on New Year's Eve at 12 p.m. against Felician at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
