OUTSTANDING SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE FOR SAINT ROSE

NORTH ANDOVER, MA-The College of Saint Rose had its outstanding season draw to a close with tonight's 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinal setback at tenth-ranked Merrimack.

The second-seed Warriors (14-2-2) will now host third-seed Adelphi in a Friday semifinal after the Panthers moved on with this evening's 2-0 victory versus Le Moyne.

The match was evenly played throughout the first half with each squad engineering four shots and a pair of corner kicks. However, Merrimack struck two minutes apart in the second period to run its home record to 7-2 this fall. Junior back Joseph Briers drove home a free kick from 20-yards out in the 67th minute that held up as the game-winner and then senior forward Augusto Silva finished a pair of quick touches to make it a two-goal affair.

Senior keeper Colan Balkwell came up with six saves for the Golden Knights (8-8-1) who strung together their best NE-10 campaign throughout their 16-year league tenure this autumn. They were furthermore picked 12th in the NE-10 preseason coaches' poll, but propelled themselves to a seventh seed in the league championship.
