THREE GOAL LEAD STANDS UP FOR #10 SAINT ROSE

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose built a 3-0 lead and withstood a pair of Franklin Pierce strikes in the final 22 minutes to upend the visiting Ravens 3-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight.

The Golden Knights (8-1-2/6-1-0 NE-10), who are ranked #10 in this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll, manufactured a 10-3 shot-on-goal advantage, and had three different players account for their three strikes.

Sophomore forward Morgan Burchhardt, sophomore back Elisa Galbiati, and senior midfielder Michaela Phillips scored the three goals. Senior forward Jennifer Busk and senior midfielder Gianna Smith each picked up an assist.

Burchhardt made 1-0 with 19:35 gone by when she collected a volley from Busk in the center of the field and lobbed a shot over Ravens (4-5-0/2-5-0 NE-10) sophomore keeper Casey Cook, who was forced to charge off her line. Ten minutes later, Galbiati headed home a Smith cross to make it a 2-0 match at intermission.

The Golden Knights then boosted their advantage to 3-0 during the initial seven minutes of the second period when Phillips drove in a loose ball from 12-yards out.

However, Franklin Pierce kept pushing forward. The effort paid off when freshman striker Nathalia Maria da Silva one-touched home a cross off the foot of sophomore forward Nalina Valaydon with 68:12 gone by. da Silva then struck again at the 85:23 mark when she finished on a counter from near the top of the area.

However, the Golden Knights were able to maintain the majority of possession the rest of the way to win their 12th straight meeting against the Ravens.

Looking ahead, both squads return to action Saturday. Saint Rose has a 2:00 pm home date with Assumption while Franklin Pierce has a 7:00 pm meeting at Bentley in Waltham, MA.
