GOLDEN KNIGHTS STRIKE EARLY TO UPEND NEW HAVEN

WEST HAVEN, CT-The College of Saint Rose struck early to snap a three-game skid with today's 1-0 victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven. In the process, the Golden Knights improved to 4-2 on the road this fall.

Junior forward Joshua Hanif delivered his fifth strike of the season in the 11th minute and senior keeper Colan Balkwell recorded four of his seven saves in the second half to help spearhead the Saint Rose (5-5-1/4-3-1 NE-10) effort.

The game was played fairly evenly although the Golden Knights did engineer an 8-7 shot-on-goal advantage and a 5-1 corner kick differential, including a 4-0 margin throughout the first half.

Saint Rose started out strong and manufactured the game's first four shots. Senior midfielder Massimo Smiroldo drove the first threat wide with 8:07 gone by.

Two minutes later, sophomore forward Romaine Williamson found himself on a breakaway via a defensive lapse. New Haven (4-8/1-7 NE-10) keeper Stephen Sasso initially turned aside Williamson's threat, but Hanif pounced on the rebound for what proved to be the difference.

Looking ahead, both sides are home with league matches on Saturday. Saint Rose will host Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 pm. The Golden Knights will be partnering with Go4theGoal® and raffling off prizes throughout the afternoon in an effort to help fight Pediatric Cancer. Meanwhile, the Chargers will host American International at 7:00 pm.
