The Book on Brian Beaury
The College of Saint Rose announced in May 2023 that Brian Beaury has agreed to return as Head Coach of the Golden Knights' men's basketball program.
“I’ve gotten to know Coach Beaury quite well since I began at Saint Rose in August of 2019 and we developed a friendship rather quickly,” said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Lori Anctil at the time of his appointment. “We share the same passion and vision for Saint Rose and the Men’s Basketball program and we are thrilled with the opportunity we have to work together, side by side. Brian’s proven track record of recruiting high character impact players, along with his uncanny ability to outwork and outperform his counterparts, will bring this program immediate success in the upcoming campaign. He has unfinished business and I’m looking forward to bringing conference championships and NCAA appearances back to Saint Rose. “
"My passion for the College and its basketball program dates back 45 years," Beaury said upon his return to the bench. "I knew on my student visit in 1978 that Saint Rose was where I belonged. As men's basketball coach, it was an honor to play a small role in the growth and development of the College and basketball program and watch our student-athletes thrive on and off the court while they were here and as alums. The passion I feel for the people and the goal to succeed hasn't faded."
Beaury spent more than 30 years at Saint Rose and retired as head coach in 2018 after missing the Golden Knights' 2017-2018 season for medical reasons. He compiled a 643-226 (.664) career record as head coach, while his teams qualified for the postseason in 31 of his 32 seasons and won eight conference titles. Beaury has earned Coach of the Year honors five different times, and in 2016, he became just the ninth NCAA Division II head coach to reach the 600-win mark. Beaury earned both his bachelor's degree in business administration and his master's degree in education from Saint Rose.
Prior to his duties being refocused entirely towards his coaching responsibilities, Beaury served Saint Rose as either the Assistant Athletic Director or Associate Athletic Director for 22 of his 32 years.
Beaury was inducted into the New York Capital Region Hall of Fame in 2012, after he was previously inducted the New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in the spring of 2010. Beaury is also a member of the Saint Rose Athletics Hall of Fame.
A native of Queens and one of six children, Beaury played high school basketball at St. Agnes before heading to Saint Rose where he was a four-year letterwinner. He was also the recipient of the College’s 1996 Distinguished Alumni Award.
The three-time captain still ranks among the school’s top-10 career leaders in both assists and steals. A two-time All-Conference selection who was the team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior, Beaury entered the collegiate coaching ranks at the age of 21 when he landed the assistant’s position at the Junior College of Albany in 1982. Beaury then returned to his alma mater in 1984 and two years later was named the College’s second head coach.
