Yafayev concluded the NCAA Championship meet by breaking his own school record in a preliminary heat of the 100-yard backstroke. Yafayev swam a 26th place time of 51.76 and in the process lowered his previous mark of 52.03 that he set last month at the Metropolitan Conference Championships. Yafayev recorded an honorable mention All-America performance in the 400 individual medley with a ninth place time of 4:00.23. He previously missed the finals cut by a mere 0.25 seconds with an 18th place clocking of 1:53.18 in Wednesday’s 200 IM.
