LE MOYNE SPOILS LONG-AWAITED HOME OPENER

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose fell twice to visiting Le Moyne in this afternoon's long-awaited home opener. The Golden Knights, which hadn't played at Cathy Haker Field in 712 days, dropped the first game 7-1 and the second game 3-0.

Sophomore right-hander Alysa Houghtaling went 4-for-6 on the day to lead Saint Rose in the Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader.

After Le Moyne got on the board in the first inning of the opener, the Golden Knights tied it in the third. With one down, junior leftfielder Taylor Matlock doubled to center. Sophomore outfielder Ciana Phillips, who was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll on Monday, changed places with a two-bagger of her own.

The Dolphins (6-4/6-4 NE10) strung together a trio of fifth-inning, two-out hits to plate what would prove to be the game-winning tally. Le Moyne, now winners of five-straight games, tacked on three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to obtain some breathing room.

Junior catcher Cassidy Barrett went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the visiting bats. Infielder Taylor Artley, a grad student, and sophomore centerfielder Dominique Russo also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Russo and Artley were back at it in the nightcap, each going 2-for-4 with an RBI. The run support was more than enough for freshman right-hander Laura Bennett. She fanned 10 Golden Knights (2-8/2-8 NE10) to earn the shutout.

The teams are scheduled to conclude their four-game weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 12:00 pm. Fans can watch the contests on the NE10NOW Network.
Notes: Prior to tonight's twin-bill, Saint Rose last played at Cathy Haker Field on April 28, 2019 vs. Southern Connecticut State...Senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tyler leads the NE10 with six doubles...Russo tops the conference in hitting at .500 (15-for-30).
