SAINT ROSE SPLITS AT MERRIMACK

Jones Goes 3-for-3 in 2-1 Win

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.  – The College of Saint Rose split today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Merrimack. After dropping the opener by a score of 2-1, the Golden Knights (11-11/5-3 NE10) salvaged the split with a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Senior infielder Beth Jones was 3-for-3 in the victory. She led off the fourth with a triple and scored what turned out to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Alissa Folts.

Saint Rose got on the scoreboard in the third when senior outfielder Astasia Myler singled home senior outfielder Samantha LaBarbera.

Merrimack (14-16/5-6 NE10) cut the deficit to one in the sixth when sophomore Abigail Amato doubled in junior shortstop Tiffany Mangiameli. The hit was the only one permitted by junior right-hander Kylee Warner in her complete game victory (2-3).

The Golden Knights, entering the seventh down 2-0 in the opener, made a late charge, loading the bases with one out. Saint Rose, though able to push one across, was unable to get the tying run in from third.

Both teams have NE10 doubleheaders tomorrow afternoon. Saint Rose continues its Massachusetts weekend tour with a 12:30 doubleheader at Assumption. Meanwhile, Merrimack hosts Le Moyne for a noon twin-bill.
Notes: Freshman right-hander Samantha Allen, now 6-4 with a save this spring, was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday... Senior infielder Briana Bowen, who was named to Monday's weekly honor roll, is batting a team-best .425 (31-for-73)...The Saint Rose table-setter has gotten a hit in 18 of the 22 games of the year.
