WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The College of Saint Rose was edged 5-4 in this afternoon's Northeast-10 Conference game at New Haven.
Â
The Golden Knights (11-15/5-7 NE10) put up a crooked number quickly, plating two first inning runs. Senior infielder
Briana Bowen led off with a double and came around to score on a double by senior outfielder
Astasia Myler. Myler scored on a two-out single by junior infielder
Kylee Warner.
Â
After New Haven (18-10/12-3 NE10) got on the board in the third, sophomore infielder
Savanna Liverio increased the Golden Knight advantage in the fifth with a two-run homer to left. The Chargers quickly responded, taking advantage of a pair of Saint Rose errors to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame.
Â
Senior infielder Madison Derosia singled home freshman pinch runner Hailey Polisano in the sixth for the eventual winning marker. The Black and Gold continued to push for an equalizer, bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh for the second time in as many days. However, freshman right-hander Mia Iodice was able to pitch out of the jam to secure the win (4-4).
Â
Myler and Liverio both were 2-for-3 to pace the Saint Rose offense, while New Haven senior outfielder Sierra Whitlock had two hits and a pair of RBI.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose hosts Adelphi for a three-game weekend series. Saturday's NE10 doubleheader will commence at noon, with a single-game set for noon on Sunday. Meanwhile, New Haven hosts Pace University for a two games tomorrow afternoon.
Notes: Bowen was named to Monday's NE10 weekly honor roll…She leads the team with a .420 batting average (37-for-88)…The co-captain has gotten a hit in 22 of the 26 games played this season, including the last 11.
