WICKHAM BLANKS AIC IN OPENER OF SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

ALBANY-Senior right-hander Nicole Wickham twirled a two-hit shutout in Wednesday's opener against American International, as The College of Saint Rose won 3-0 before dropping the nightcap, 7-4, in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Cathy Haker Field.

Saint Rose (9-19/4-8 NE-10) got things started in the home half of the first inning in game one when senior catcher Zoe Dubois doubled home senior shortstop Danielle Brusca and later scored to put the Golden Knights up 2-0.

Freshman pinch runner Grace Jacobs added the third tally for Saint Rose by scoring on a single to left-center off the bat of junior first baseman Kayla Bancroft in the fourth inning.

Wickham allowed just two hits and one walk in her third shutout of the season.

In game two, the Golden Knights went up 3-0 after the third inning, but a seven-run outburst from American International (15-15/8-9 NE-10) in the top of the fourth proved to be all it would need.

Senior right fielder Tina Karaqi and Bancroft both doubled, and junior left fielder Carly Wood went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Junior right-hander Renee Vaiano pitched 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.

Up next, the Golden Knights host Pace Univesity at 4 p.m. followed by a matchup with Southern Connecticut State on Friday, April 15 at Cathy Haker Field.
