SAINT ROSE WELCOMES SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE FOR LAST HOMESTAND

The Golden Knights will host NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut State this weekend.

The Plot: The College of Saint Rose plays its final regular-season homestand of the 2014 season as Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State arrives for a weekend series. Saturday's double-dip gets underway at 12:00 pm, as does Sunday's series finale. Sunday is also Senior Day.
 
Senior Day: Senior outfielder Brian Maynard and senior right-handers Mack Naughton and Josh Johnson will be recognized during a pregame ceremony on Sunday.

Last Time Out:The Golden Knights split Friday's NE-10 divisional doubleheader at New Haven. They won the opener 5-3, but fell 7-3 in the nightcap. Freshman shortstop Mike Flynn had a pair of hits in the finale. Junior second baseman Ryan Hooker, sophomore center fielder Derek Reed and junior first baseman Zac Bellinger had two hits each, while Flynn drove in a pair in the opener.
 
Scouting Saint Rose (12-22/8-9 NE-10):The Golden Knights have outscored their opponents 42-27 from the eighth inning on. Saint Rose is 3-4 in one run games, and 10-3 when leading after six innings. Bellinger paces the squad with a .459 slugging percentage, while Hladik has a team-best .407 on-base percentage. Reed has reached base in 13 straight games. Bellinger and junior outfielder Nick Venier are batting .333 (45-for-135) and .289 (37-for-128) respectively. Venier also has a team-leading 12 stolen bases. Sophomore right-hander Coby Schwartz is 5-2 with a 2.98 ERA while junior right-hander Chris Gould has six saves, fourth most in the league.
 
Scouting Southern Connecticut State (18-13-1/12-7 NE-10): Junior designated hitter Joe Breen hit a two-run double off the right field fence with two outs in the eighth to lead Southern Connecticut State to Wednesday's 6-4 win against visiting league rival Adelphi. Junior first baseman Julian Sobin went 4-for-5 and junior left fielder Brandon Docimo finished 2-for-3 to lead the Owls offense. Sophomore right-hander Mike Yerina tossed 1.2 innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win in relief. Southern Connecticut State comes into the weekend riding a three-game win streak. Their .296 team batting average is the league's second-best mark. Sophomore outfielder Matt Burns stands fifth in the NE-10 with a .385 batting average (52-for-135). He also paces the Owls with 16 stolen bases. Senior right-hander Joe Cundari and Yerina are 1-2 in the conference with respective 0.78 and 0.88 ERA's. They have recorded a combined 80 strikeouts and yielded only 17 walks. Junior left-hander Pat Egan is 2-2, 3.09; and is third in the NE-10 with a team-high 69 K's.

Up Next: The Golden Knights will close out the regular-season portion of their 2014 slate with Tuesday's 1:00 pm doubleheader at NE-10 and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne. Meanwhile, the Owls have a 3:30 pm home date with New Haven that same afternoon.
