SAINT ROSE DROPS DOUBLEHEADER AT SAINT ANSELM

MANCHESTER, NH – Strong pitching performances and a balanced offense led host Saint Anselm to two victories against The College of Saint Rose, 8-0 in five innings and 6-0, during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader today.
 
Saint Rose (5-16/3-8 NE-10) managed just four combined hits in both games with sophomore outfielder Kari Bird responsible for two of them. Freshman infielder Meghan Reynolds went 1-for-1 with a walk and stolen base in the first game while junior outfielder Amber Loussedes notched a hit in the nightcap. In two games, freshman right-hander Nicole Wickham pitched a combined 7.0 innings  with five strikeouts.
 
The sophomore pitching tandem of right-hander Tayla Trask and left-hander Paige Cormier each allowed just two hits in each game. Trask struck out six in 5.0 innings while Cormier tallied four punch outs in 7.0 innings of work. At the plate, junior shortstop Nicole Boucher tallied four hits including a home run and two RBI. Meanwhile, senior catcher Lauren Galavotti totaled five hits with four runs scored.
 
The Hawks jumped out early in the first game with three runs in the opening inning on a hit-by-pitch, a walk, and a wild pitch. Saint Anselm then grew its margin to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Boucher knocked a two-run home run followed by two runs on a Saint Rose infield error. The game was then ended in the bottom of fifth with one out as Galavotti sent an RBI single through the right side.
 
Saint Anselm was quick to score in the nightcap as well, scoring twice on wild pitches in the bottom of the first inning.  Boucher scored the third run in the third frame on a throwing error during a stolen base attempt. The lead went to 5-0 in the fifth inning as junior infielder Gina Treglia drove in two runs on a single down the right field line. Boucher concluded the scoring in the sixth inning with her fourth RBI of the day.
 
Saint Rose continues its road trip tomorrow at conference foe Saint Michael's. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 pm in Colchester, VT. Saint Anselm is also in action Sunday The Hawks will host league foe Le Moyne in an 11:00 am twin-bill.
