ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose started a three-game
Northeast-10 Southwest Divisional series with #23 Adelphi by splitting a doubleheader with a 2-0 win in the opener followed by a 8-1 defeat earlier today at
Cathy Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Five individuals produced at least two hits for the Golden Knights (10-29-1/8-18 NE-10) as junior center fielder
Amber Loussedes led that group with three hits. Freshman right-hander
Nicole Wickham earned the victory in the first game by posting a complete game shutout for her seventh win of the season.
Senior outfielder Emily Dorko went 5-for-8 while senior outfielder Amy Caird notched four hits and two RBI on the day to pace the Panthers (36-16/25/-4 NE-10). Senior pitcher Laurin Watts picked up her 18th victory of the campaign by striking out eight in the nightcap.
A pitcher's duel for the first four and half innings between Wickham and senior right-hander Devon Kelly yielded a scoreless game before the Golden Knights benefitted from a fielding error. Loussedes and sophomore right fielder
Marisa Bird scored with two outs in the fifth inning as freshman shortstop
Danielle Brusca reached on the error to afford the lead.
Wickham retired the next six Adelphi batters to help Saint Rose secure the first game win.
The Panther's offense quickly responded to open the nightcap with seven runs in the second and third innings collectively. Senior catcher Elizabeth Lindner highlighted the rally with a two-run triple in the third inning.
Junior left fielder
Val Nelson knocked one of her two hits in game-two during the fifth inning to put Saint Rose on the board at 7-1 with an RBI single. However, Adelphi added another run in the seventh and held the Golden Knights scoreless although Saint Rose did manage to laod the bases in the seventh.
The two teams conclude the regular season tomorrow with a single game at Haker Field. First pitch is set for 12:30 pm.
