SAINT ROSE WINS 10TH STRAIGHT AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

Senior outside hitter Christina Strezenec was one of four individuals to total eight kills for Saint Rose tonight.

NEW HAVEN, CT-The College of Saint Rose continued its winning streak tonight with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) victory at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State for its 10th straight victory.
 
Four individuals finished with eight kills for the Golden Knights (11-1/3-0 NE-10). Senior middle hitter Alex Gagliano added three blocks while freshman middle hitter Maryellen Devic contributed two service aces. Junior libero Katy Daniels, who was named NE-10 Libero of the Week earlier today, posted 17 digs. Saint Rose finished with eight service while yielding only one.
 
Senior outside hitter Lauren McVey led the Owls (10-6/1-3 NE-10) with a match high nine kills.. Sophomore setter Taylor Carson and freshman outside hitter Nicole Hauser combined for 19 assists.
 
A quick 5-1 run with the score tied at 12 in the first set allowed Saint Rose to establish an advantage it would not relinquish by winning 25-20.  Devic came up with her two service aces in the set while Gagliano added three kills with seven others also registering at least one kill.
 
Another run helped the Golden Knights streak to a victory in the second game as a 6-0 spurt with the score knotted up at seven a piece keyed the win. Saint Rose accumulated 17 kills in the game with Devic notching five of those and senior outside hitter Christina Strezenec and sophomore outside hitter Carrisa Dube adding three each.
 
Looking for the team's eighth sweep of the season, Saint Rose scored seven of the last nine points in the third set to win 25-18 to complete the match victory with a .385 hitting percentage. Gagliano, Dube, and Strezenec equally split nine of the team's 13 kills in the frame.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose plays again next Tuesday, October 15 by welcoming league foe American International for a 7:00 pm start. Meanwhile, Southern Connecticut travels to Syracuse for a 1:00 pm meeting at Le Moyne on Saturday.
