ALBANY - The College of Saint Rose wraps up the home portion of its 2012 slate today when the Golden Knights welcome Le Moyne College to Albany for a
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 3:00 pm from Cathy Cummings Haker Field.
2011 vs. Le Moyne (0-0-1)
The two clubs battled to a 7-7 tie last April 29 in Syracuse after the game was called in the 10th inning due to darkness. Senior second baseman
Lindsey David roped a two-run triple to knot things in the top of the seventh and after both clubs scored a pair of runs in the 10th frame darkness prevailed in what was originally a league doubleheader.
Last Time Out
Saint Rose rallied from a sixth inning deficit in game two to split a NE-10 doubleheader versus Saint Anselm College on Sunday. The Golden Knights took game two 3-1 after falling 10-1 in the opener. Senior second baseman
Kayla Kuilema drew a bases loaded walk to knot things 1-1. Sophomore outfielder
Val Nelson then delivered a two-run single to give Saint Rose the cushion it needed. Senior right-hander
Courtney Galuski scattered six hits and fanned two over the distance for the Golden Knights. Sophomore outfielder
Olivia Reeves ended up 2-for-3 with a run, while Nelson and senior third baseman
Jessica Butterbrodt also singled for Saint Rose. In game one, the Hawks broke open a 2-0 ballgame with four runs in the fourth. The Golden Knights were limited to just two hits in the contest that prevented them from generating many formidable scoring threats. Butterbrodt wound up 1-for-2 and scored the lone run, while junior infielder
Rachel Reed finished 1-for-2 as well.
Saint Rose Diamond Notes
Today is the final home twin-bill of the 2012 campaign for the Golden Knights, who have played 10 of their 16 doubleheaders following their annual trip to Florida at Cathy Cummings Haker Field. Saint Rose has posted an even 9-9 home slate as opposed to a 1-7 mark on the road. The Golden Knights have put up three runs or more in 11 of their 12 victories this year. Kuilema is four hits shy (96) of picking up her 100th base knock in a Saint Rose uniform. Reeves is tied for the league lead in walks (30), is third in home runs (10) and one of only seven players in the NE-10 hitting .400 or better.
Le Moyne Diamond Notes
The Dolphins have won six straight heading into today. They are currently alone in fifth place in the NE-10 standings. Sophomore Sarah Harrison picked up her league leading 19th victory of the year in Sunday's thrilling 1-0 walk-off win. Harrison has also piled up 235 strikeouts in 233.0 innings of work. She owns a slim 1.74 ERA as well. Senior catcher Morgan Edmondson and senior third baseman Kelcie Cashel are tied for eighth in the conference with 47 hits apiece. Le Moyne wrapped up the home portion of its 2012 campaign with a 15-3 slate.
Upstate Challenge
Saint Rose and Le Moyne are nearing the conclusion of the year-long rivalry series known as the '
Upstate Challenge.' Beginning last fall, the two schools will square off in 14 sports in which the schools compete head-to-head in the regular season or during the NE-10 Championship. The Golden Knights own a 7.5-4.5 advantage and have thus locked up the first 'Upstate Challenge' trophy.
Up Next
Both squads return to the ballpark on Saturday with road games on tap. Saint Rose heads to Saint Michael's College for a noon twin-bill, while Le Moyne heads to Franklin Pierce University for a 2:00 pm start.
