SAINT ROSE AND LE MOYNE BATTLE TO A 7-7 TIE

Junior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt belted her fifth home run of the year in the 10th inning today
SYRACUSE, NY – The College of Saint Rose softball team battled upstate and Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne College to a 7-7 tie this evening at the Niland Athletic Complex after the game was called in the 10th inning due to darkness. Junior second baseman Lindsey David roped a two-run triple to knot things in the top of the seventh and after both clubs scored a pair of runs in the 10th frame darkness prevailed in what was originally a league doubleheader.

The Golden Knights (7-26-1/3-19-1 NE-10) grabbed an early 1-0 lead when freshman left fielder Olivia Reeves tripled to right center to bring around freshman center fielder Amber Loussedes. Loussedes led off the game with a single and then stole second base to get herself into scoring position.

Saint Rose tacked on two more in the fifth to give itself a 3-0 cushion. Reeves was hit by a pitch with the bases jammed, which forced home sophomore right fielder Steph Luce. Senior right-hander Nicole Traylor followed with an RBI single that brought home Loussedes.

The Dolphins (14-20-1/12-10-1 NE-10) answered with three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go up 5-3. Junior Amanda Mosich and freshman second baseman Sarah Vevante belted back-to-back homers to punctuate the scoring outburst.

The Golden Knights responded with two of their own to extend things. Loussedes and Reeves both reached via a pair of singles, which set the stage for David's game-tying drive into the right center field gap. It was furthermore her first triple of the year.

Neither club was able to break the ice again until Saint Rose junior third baseman Jessica Butterbrodt smacked her fifth home run of the year over the center field wall in the 10th. However, senior left fielder Amanda Daum and junior shortstop Barb Shea slapped RBI singles to pull Le Moyne back to even. The Dolphins stranded two runners, and that was how things would end up.

Loussedes wound up 2-for-5 and scored three runs, while Reeves finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run to pace the Golden Knights. Junior left-hander Sarah Arbogast tossed 5.0 innings of four-hit ball in relief and recorded three strikeouts.

Vevante, Shea and Daum contributed two hits apiece to lead Le Moyne. Meanwhile, sophomore center fielder Demetra Kermidas was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run.

Both clubs return to action tomorrow with a pair of league doubleheaders on the schedule. The Golden Knights are set to host Stonehill College, while the Dolphins welcome Bentley University. The first pitch at both venues is slated for noon.
