ADELPHI NEEDS EXTRAS TO UPEND SAINT ROSE

Freshman left fielder Olivia Reeves belted her team-leading sixth home run to lead Saint Rose in the opener
ALBANY – Visiting Adelphi University rallied from a pair of three-run deficits to win the opener 14-7 and then scored three times in the eighth inning to walk away with a 5-2 triumph in the nightcap of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Cathy Cummings Haker Field today.

Saint Rose went up 3-0 in the first game when junior third baseman Lindsey David drove home senior right-hander Nicole Traylor and sophomore Rachel Reed with a single up the middle. Junior shortstop Kayla Kuilema later scored on an error as well.

After Adelphi scored three times in the top of the third, the Golden Knights (7-22/3-15 NE-10) plated three runs of their own in the bottom half that afforded them a 6-3 cushion. Kuilema reached on an infield single that brought home junior catcher Jessica Butterbrodt. David then stroked an RBI single and Kuilema stole home on the next pitch.

The Panthers (18-20/12-8 NE-10) finally got their bats going that led to five runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Senior catcher Deandra Leo capped off the fifth with a solo home run. Junior first baseman Amanda Krier roped a two-run double to left center just before Leo's blast. In the sixth, senior third baseman Shay Craig scored on a wild pitch and sophomore designated player Paige Rhodes plated a pair via a single. Leo then punctuated things with a three-run drive in the seventh.

Reeves and freshman center fielder Amber Loussedes each went 2-for-5 to lead Saint Rose. Krier and Leo wound up 3-for-5 and combined for eight RBI and six runs for Adelphi.

In the finale, freshman right-hander Katie Andrews took a no-hitter into the fifth inning for the Panthers. However, Andrews issued a walk to sophomore right fielder Steph Luce. Sophomore second baseman Michelle Schroll and Loussedes followed with back-to-back infield singles to load the bases and then Reeves smacked a two-run single to knot things 2-2.

The Panthers struck again late in the game by sending seven batters to the plate in a three run, eighth inning that allowed them to complete the sweep. Leo put things away with a two-run single.

Reeves, Loussedes, Kuilema and Schroll each recorded a hit for Saint Rose. Sophomore center fielder Emily Dorko finished 2-for-3, while Andrews fanned 12 over the distance to lead Adelphi.

Saint Rose hits the road tomorrow for a league twin-bill at UMass Lowell. Game one is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm. Meanwhile, Adelphi travels to Bentley University for a pair of conference contests at noon Saturday.
